This month, Nestle Philippines celebrates wellness by promoting the very basic norms that we do every morning before we go to work at the same time it is very important, breakfast. Nowadays, we skip breakfast because of the demand of our fast paced lifestyle — especially who are living in Urban City.

Held at their corporate office in Rockwell City Makati, Nestlé Philippines officially launched I Can’t Believe It’s Breakfast! – a book of 30 easy-to-follow recipes that offer a variety of breakfast ideas to excite the palate and spice up the mornings, from the very “quick” when you don’t have much time to spare, to the “not-so-quick” for mornings when you can invest a little more time and effort for the most important meal to jumpstart your day!

The recipe book highlights the importance of breakfast as part of the Company’s long-term advocacy of helping consumers Choose Wellness through proper diet and physical activity. This is not the first time that they introduced this book, somewhere around June, this book was officially introduced for the media at the 2015 Nestle Wellness Convention at SM Megatrade hall.

Speaking at the launching of the cookbook, Nestlé Philippines Consumer Engagement Services Head Aurora Alipao cited the most common reasons why people skip breakfast.

“Working parents like us are always pressed for time, so preparing a nutritious breakfast for our children early in the morning may prove to be a daunting task. Children themselves, especially adolescents, prefer to get more sleep than rise up early to have breakfast. And then of course, there are those who purposely miss breakfast in a misguided attempt to lose weight. Others simply are not aware of the benefits of eating breakfast.”

Studies show that those who skip breakfast become easily irritated, feel weak and uncoordinated, and tend to over-eat later in the day.

Performance at work or in school also suffers, and weight management becomes difficult as shown on the slides.

Nestlé Philippines Corporate Nutritionist Catherine Sarmiento highlighted the importance of eating breakfast in order to start the day right and make the most out of it. “Breakfast not only gives you the right fuel to perform your day’s tasks, it also sets the pace for the types of food you choose to eat throughout the day, helping you better manage your weight,” Ms. Sarmiento said.

“Aside from promoting bone, gut and heart health, breakfast also helps you focus and do well mentally and emotionally. When it becomes part of your daily routine, breakfast promotes a healthy lifestyle for you and your family.”

Recognizing the time constraints everyone faces in the morning, Ms. Sarmiento suggests for parents to have a weekly breakfast plan that allows for food variety (to avoid taste fatigue) and optimize nutrition, while sticking to the budget. “Planning ahead will save you time during the week, and will ensure that the breakfast you serve daily helps meet your family’s nutritional needs,” she said.

Also, Ms. Alipao said parents play a big role in building the breakfast habit among their children. “Parents are regarded as role models by their children, so when they see their parents eat breakfast, they will be encouraged to eat breakfast too. Another way to encourage kids to eat breakfast is to involve them in breakfast planning, and to ask them to help you prepare breakfast on weekends and holidays when there is more time. This gives you an opportunity to bond and connect.”

A highlight of the recipe book launch was a cooking demonstration by Nestlé Resident Chef Tess Sutilo, who developed all 30 recipes featured in the book. Shared here are recipes from I Can’t Believe It’s Breakfast! I posted videos of Chef Tess Sutilo doing some easy breakfast that you will find on the book.

Novuhair Philippines With Abby Asistio

Runners Kitchen, Tomas Morato Quezon City — Singer-songwriter, TV host, and the poster girl for alopecia in the country, Abby Asistio is singing a happy tune nowadays. And it’s all because of those precious new strands of hair which are obviously growing on her previously bald head.

We was invited at her humble restaurant in Quezon City, Abby proudly shows off her head with its short hair, like a child showing off a prized toy. “It has consistently been growing longer these past two years. My hair is significantly thicker now and I could already style it in different ways, even without having to wear wigs, turbans, and other hair accessories,” she shares with an obvious gleam of joy in her eyes.Abby quickly reveals her secret: Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss.

After her public outing in 2012, Nutramedica reached out to Abby to try Novuhair. She had already heard about it from Fanny Serrano, a family friend and the brand’s endorser, but she was wary of trying another product just to get disappointed all over again.

She eventually started and relented using Novuhair in March 2013. After six months, Abby was pleasantly surprised to notice fine strands of baby hair growing in previously bald areas. “It was very exciting! It encouraged me to be more persistent in using it, ” Abby recalls.

Since that day, Abby has been a loyal Novuhair user and swears by it. “I use the scalp lotion, shampoo, and conditioner religiously,” Abby continues.

It seems like a miracle, those delicate black strands of hair growing from her scalp and for Abby, the sensations are almost all new to her. “I never thought I could have a full head of hair again. I could actually “take care of my hair” now and even go to the salon to get a trim,” she says enthusiastically. “I love having hair again,” she further states.

Having alopecia is a huge part of Abby’s life journey and after successfully recovering from it, she has made it her mission to help others afflicted with the same condition. She started by putting up the first support group in the country – Alopecia Philippines, which aims to spread awareness about the condition and at the same time, inspire and motivate those with alopecia to become more secure and comfortable in their own skin.

As of now, the group’s online Alopecia Philippines Facebook group counts around 300 members from all over the country. There are those who are afflicted with alopecia themselves and some are their family members or loved ones. “People share stories there, share experiences, post inquiries as well as words of encouragement to help those in the group,” Abby states.

The group has already lined up a number of activities and campaigns for the year, especially during Alopecia Awareness Month come September, including a planned Alopecia Weekend Boot Camp and awareness concert. They also hope to formalize the organization before the year ends to do more for those with alopecia in the country.

“It’s never easy,” Abby says about living with alopecia. “But remember, you are not alone. People around you love and care for you, and accept and appreciate you for who you are. Look for someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, people to laugh about your journey and hair stories with,” Abby further shares.

“Everything happens for a reason. In the end, we can choose to rise above the disease and come out better, stronger, more courageous, and more beautiful. Our hair may come and go but it is who we are, what is inside that truly matters and lasts,” Abby says with a smile, the beautiful woman who has bravely battled alopecia and came out of it gloriously victorious with the aid of Novuhair. Abby thanks Novuhair, “I now have a full head of hair and feel more confident than ever before.”
